December At Perch & Mission

I read this today, somewhere on the internet: "Local is the new black."   So true! (For those of you unfamiliar with the saying "(fill in the blank) is the new black" it means that it's the hottest new thing.)  It seems like everywhere I look there is a craft show, market or sale featuring locally made arts, crafts, and collectors.  And that is a good thing!

At Mission Trading Company  you will find a delightful mix of locally made crafts, gifts and DIY projects that fit any budget and taste.  Any foodies on your Christmas list?  We have kits to make your own cheese and artisan bread.  What about aspiring artists (both young, and young at heart)?  We have stamp kits to create your own made up landscapes, the very best quality art supplies, and even photo transfer project kits to create one of a kind tote bags, tee shirts or some other creative fabric art.   For those who like a bit more bling we have locally made, beautiful jewellery that will definitely become a favourite in any fashion accessory collection. Oh, and we have (the  best) fudge!

And if you love vintage clothing, accessories and collectibles,  you will love shopping at the Perch Travelling Boutique Pop Up Shop.  We have party dresses,  warm winter coats and boots, and even vintage seasonal decor to make your holiday special and unique.

Who We Are

Heather Yip has worn many  hats during her career in the arts.  She has been a graphic designer, arts instructor and art therapist.   Three years ago she moved from Calgary, AB to Kelowna, BC. She lives with her husband and two children the Mission. She is currently  the Curator of Goods for Mission Trading Company, while she continues to create custom made jewelry, paintings and stamps.

Robyn Flinn is originally from California, and that is where her she started collecting vintage clothing.  She moved to Canada in 1997, and currently lives in Kelowna, BC with her husband and two sons.   In 2012 she opened the Okangan's only mobile vintage clothing boutique. In order to provide her customers (repeat and new) with the best selection of vintage and retro fashions year round, in November 2014 she opened a Winter Pop Up Shop inside Mission Trading Company .

We Are On Our Honeymoon!

This is the story of a whirl wind romance between two innovative entrepreneurs who met, fit together on a creative level right away and decided to move in together, all in less than two months!

Heather Yip is an accomplished artist located in Kelowna BC that recognized a niche that needed to be filled in the local art community: Kelowna was lacking a proper gift shop where fans of local artists could find work by their favourite artists all in one place. So she opened one! Mission Trading Company, Paper Goods & Gifts, A Pop Up Shop is an inviting place where clients can purchase prints by local artists, soaps and candles made right in the Okanagan, and handmade jewelry and fashion accessories, as well as fun DIY art kits sourced from ethical companies in North America.  If you are looking for Waldorf inspired toys and art supplies you will find them at Mission Trading Co.

Robyn Flinn is a vintage fashion guru, who in the warmer months drives her blue bus full of vintage and retro clothing and accessories around the Okanagan.  Her mobile shop, Perch Travelling Boutique, is well known in Kelowna as a unique and casual spot to find one of a kind items for the vintage lover's wardrobe.

When the opportunity arose for Heather to lease a part of her shop space, Robyn wasted no time in letting her intentions be known: she wanted that space for a Perch Travelling Boutique Pop Up Shop!  With Heather's blessing, Robyn soon transformed an unused space into a charming vintage showroom. The themes of art and fashion have united beautifully, and for the next six weeks (at least) the honeymoon will continue.
